Trump Green-lights Pay Raise for Feds

Federal employees will soon see a small bump in their pay. President Donald Trump on March 28 signed an executive order authorizing a 1.9 percent pay increase for this year, retroactive to January.

The Office of Personnel Management said in a statement it has worked proactively with payroll providers to make sure ā€œthe execution as seamlessly as possible.ā€

OPM issued new pay tables and guidance a day after the executive order was signed and said agencies and payroll processors ā€œwill work quickly to update their systems and process retroactive pay actions.ā€ The exact timing of implementation may vary, however, OPM said.Ā

In a memo to agency heads, OPM Acting Director Margaret Weichert said some senior political officials will get a pay bump of up to 1.9 percent in the preexisting payable rates ā€“ which had been frozen since 2014.

The pay raise was part of the spending bill Trump signed into law Feb. 15. Federal employees have since been waiting -- and asking --Ā for an update about their new pay.
