DC has been named one of the most toxic places to work in the country by a workforce watchdog. In a recent study by The Society for Human Resource Management, Washington D.C. ranked in the bottom 10 cities with least fulfilled workers.
The survey found that a toxic workplace culture was one of the top reasons for employee turnover and workplace instability.
"Based upon this research, we know that American workers generally aren't happy and we need to do something to make them more fulfilled and more committed to their employer to stay," Johnny C Taylor Jr. President and CEO of the Society for Human Resource Management told Washington's WONK FM.
SHRM estimates that cost of turnover is cost American Businesses nearly $223 billion dollars over the past 5 years.
"20 percent of Americans, 1 in 5, have quit their job due to poor culture, and that's costing American employers," Taylor explained. "The assumption is because you are technically great at your job, that you should be promoted to manage other people doing the job, but we've also not trained them, we've not equipped them to do it. Companies need to focus on better people management."
