HONG KONG, CHINA — China won't allow U.S. Navy ships to dock in Hong Kong.Beijing announced sanctions in response to last week's enactment of a law supporting pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

The sanctions also will keep American military planes from landing in Hong Kong.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is calling on China to uphold its treaty when it took over governance of Hong Kong.

Pompeo said at the McConnell Center at the University of Louisville that there are still decades to go in the 1997 treaty where China agreed to allow Hong Kong to operate under a different system than the rest of the nation.

He said that protest and others around the world, from Iran to Lebanon, are by people who are fed up with lack of freedoms and an end to corruption.
