LOS ANGELES, CA— The trailer for Top Gun: Maverick was released this week and will follow-up the 1986 movie, with Tom Cruise playing Maverick.

Despite the primary setting for the original film, the USS Enterprise CNV 65, sailing its final voyage in 2017; and the DCS-F14 Tomcat retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2016, and the Unites States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program (TOPGUN) merging into another training school, not much has changed when it comes to American’s love of Maverick.

The sequel takes place 30 years later and hosts a new cohort of U.S. Navy fighter pilots to be trained by the incomparable Maverick this time in the cockpit of a Super Hornet.

When the original was released in 1986, the military received over 20,000 entrants, a large number of those going to the Navy. In fact, recruiters began to set up recruiting in theater lobbies.

Like many other NATO nations today, the US is currently suffering a recruiting dip across all branches of the armed forces.

The hope is some fancy flying and a few dozen multi-million dollar props may inspire a resurgence this summer.

The trailer foreshadows advanced aviation, turbulence among the new group and even a military funeral. One of the new characters played by Miles Teller is reported by USA

Today to be the son of Nick "Goose" Bradshaw, played by Anthony Edwards in the original film.Top Gun: Maverick is scheduled to be released summer 2020.
