VP Harris Delivers Virtual Remarks At Conference Of Americas

Vice President Kamala Harris

(Washington, DC) -- Vice President Harris is highlighting the need to address migration in the western hemisphere. Speaking virtually at the Conference of Americas, Harris said citizens in Northern Triangle countries of El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala are leaving their homes at an "alarming rate" because they have lost hope. She said the Biden administration is working with Mexico and Guatemala to focus on addressing the acute causes and root factors of migration. Harris said acute causes are things like natural disasters and extreme food insecurity while root factors consist of corruption and lack of good governance. Harris noted the U.S. cannot work on this issue alone, adding that she plans to travel to Mexico and Guatemala next month.
