Virginia Tech Football Player Charged with Murder, Suspended from Team

Virginia Tech football linebacker Isi Etute has been charged with murder, and as a result, the school has suspended him from the program immediately.

The Blacksburg Police Department has charged Etute with 2nd degree murder as it is believed he was connected to the killing of a 40-year-old man on Tuesday. The man was found dead when police responded to a welfare check call in Blacksburg, VA at 10:30 PM on Tuesday. They believe Etute was an "acquaintance" of the man.

Virginia Tech University said in a press release, "Blacksburg Police continues to lead this ongoing investigation, and the university will assist law enforcement agencies working the case in any way it can."

Etute was a freshman and participated in spring practice, but did not play any official games with the team. He was reportedly in the running to be a reserve outside linebacker on the team.

The investigation is ongoing.
