California Plastic Surgeon Performs Surgery During Zoom Traffic Court Trial

A plastic surgeon from California is under investigation after he was seen performing surgery during a Zoom traffic court trial. Dr. Scott Green appeared before the Sacramento Superior Court to contest a traffic violation wearing surgical scrubs and a mask.

He appeared to be in the operating room with a patient on the operating table just out of the camera's view.

"Hello, Mr. Green? Hi. Are you available for trial?" the courtroom clerk asked Green. "It kind of looks like you're in an operating room right now."

Green admitted he was in the middle of performing surgery but insisted he was ready for the trial to begin.

"I am, sir," Green said. "Yes, I'm in an operating room right now. Yes, I'm available for trial. Go right ahead."

The clerk reminded Green the proceedings were being live-streamed to the public. He acknowledged that the trial was being streamed and then went back to work while waiting for the judge to begin the trial.

When Court Commissioner Gary Link entered the chamber, he voiced concerns about holding the trial while Green was performing surgery.

"Unless I'm mistaken, I'm seeing a defendant that's in the middle of an operating room appearing to be actively engaged in providing services to a patient," he says. "Is that correct, Mr. Green?"

Green explained that there was another surgeon with him who could step in if needed. Link said he was not comfortable holding the trial while Green was actively performing surgery and rescheduled it for March 4.

"I do not feel comfortable for the welfare of a patient if you're in the process of operating that I would put on a trial, notwithstanding the fact the officer is here today," Green said.

The Medical Board of California said it has launched an investigation into the incident.
