BREAKING: Prince George's County Will Enter Phase One of Reopening June 1

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD — Prince Georges County Executive Angela Alsobrooks announced the county will enter phase one of reopening on June 1.

Alsobrooks said in the press conference this morning that the county has met the standards necessary to begin the reopening process.

The county will be opening additional testing sites in June bringing the testing capacity of 9,000 tests per week.

Under phase one, manufacturing will be able to reopen provided they follow CDC guidelines. Barbershops and hair salons will be able to open by appointment only and both customers and employees must wear mask.

Restaurants will be allowed to open outdoor seating, but employees and guests will need to wear face coverings and no more than six guests may be sat at a table, tables must be six feet apart and no more than 50 people will be allowed in an establishment at any time. Employees will also need to be screened before starting their shift and hand sanitizer and gloves must be made available.

Houses of worship will be allowed to reopen, but no more than 10 worshippers may enter at a time. Childcare services may resume, but must follow CDC guidelines and Famers Markets will reopen for carryout as well. Retail stores will be able to offer curbside pickup for customers, but may allow patrons inside the establishment.

Lastly, car washes can reopen, but drivers and passengers must remain in the car, parks will remain open with appropriate social distancing measures, but fitness facilities will remain closed during this phase.

As of this morning, Alsobrooks said the county has seen over 14,000 cases of coronavirus and 478 deaths from the virus in the county.
